Ad Revenue Ops Success Story – Smarter, Automated, And Profitable!

There’s never a dull moment for the digital publishing industry.

In addition to grabbing the reader’s attention with new and compelling stories, they have to compete with competitors to generate revenue, manage campaigns, reconcile billing, and minimise revenue leakage.

It isn’t easy because many of these processes are still done manually. Publishers have to tackle issues like large data volumes existing in silos, no real-time insights due to lack of centralization, limitations in generating reports and invoices, and too many revenue streams over which nobody has any control.

With no proper data visibility, publishers face challenges monetizing their business and generating revenue, eventually leading to revenue loss.

The only way to solve this problem is through the concerted digitization of revenue and ad ops. That’s precisely how a large publisher network of over 1,500 publishers in the US dealt with these challenges.

How A US-Based Publisher Got Into An Ad Revenue Ops Apocalypse

The publisher network used Google Ad Manager (GAM) and more than 23 demand-side platforms (DSP) to monetize their traffic. They were generating a lot of data, which could have helped them make the right decisions and generate revenue.

However, it wasn’t simple.

The client was still manually reconciling reports from multiple ad servers. This meant they had to deal with different reporting metrics and check for discrepancies at every stage. It led to a 30-45 days delay in reconciling billing. They often had to face legal and financial liabilities and publisher complaints due to late payouts.

To add to the woes, yield optimization became challenging despite managing 1,500+ ad units across 25+ demand platforms. Due to a lack of readily available information, it was impossible to identify underperforming campaigns in time or make strategy adjustments soon enough to make an impact.

Data inconsistency and inaccuracy due to an overreliance on Excel sheets and a general lack of standardisation in report compilation soon became a source of frustration for executives. It was clear that they could not make strategic decisions or tell a larger story to the management and the board due to insufficient accurate data.

The over-dependence on various ad servers for reports and a lack of a centralized platform to store data led to an ad and revenue ops apocalypse. The client was drowning in a sea of data, with much time spent just opening an Excel or CSV file, compiling the reports, and making sense of all the data. As if that wasn’t enough, a few ad servers archived data for over 90 days. Retrieving them for ad ops and billing reconciliation was an altogether different problem.

All these factors came together in the worst way possible. It started becoming hard for the client to generate revenue, improve revenue and ad ops, and build a trustworthy relationship with the 1,500+ publishers.

There was an urgent need for a smarter, automated solution to help the client generate profits. That’s where YuktaOne came to the rescue.

How Did They Overcome The Apocalypse?

Before using YuktaOne, the client tried a leading data aggregation and reporting tool for a few years. However, it did not help them overcome the challenges. After a successful proof of concept (PoC), the client decided to use YuktaOne – the media ERP solution designed by YuktaMediato automate Ad Revenue Ops and earn profits.

The solution helped them:

  • Streamline Ad Revenue Ops: YuktaOne’s billing app enabled the client’s finance team to generate invoices and payouts to publishers on time. The reconciliation was done daily instead of at the end of the month, and over 50 validation checks were added at every data processing stage to maintain data accuracy. This improved the accounting period close time by 83% and reduced the overall period to 15 days.
  • Make better decisions: The client had role-based access to YuktaOne’s dashboard, which displayed all the data collected from programmatic, non-programmatic, mobile, and video and inventories on a single dashboard. This made it easy for the management to view the data, track KPIs, and make strategic decisions.
  • Unlock new revenue-generating opportunities: With more data visibility, the sales team could identify high-value inventories, analyse the fill rate, sell-through rate, and demand partner buying patterns, and pack and price the different inventories accordingly. The process that usually took days to prepare was now readily available to the team within hours. It gave them more time to do advanced analysis and unlock new revenue-generating opportunities than gathering data.
  • Manage data efficiently: With YuktaOne, the customer support team didn’t have to bother about data management. Everything was completely automated. The YuktaOne platform integrates with new demand partners and ensures  the ready availability of data since partnership to facilitate historical data analysis and trend prediction.
